Mr Baldwin asked the Minister for Defence Materiel and Science, in writing, on
16 June 2010:
- In respect of the modification of HMAS Success, on what date did Defence issue:
- an Invitation to Register, and how many registrations were received; and
- the Request for Tender, and
- on what date did applications close,
- how many companies responded, and of those, how many were going to undertake the work in Australia, and overseas, and where.
- Has Defence produced a shortlist of companies that responded to the Request for Tender; if so, when; and which companies were shortlisted.
- Which shortlisted companies were going to undertake the work
- in Australia, and where; and
- overseas, and where.
- Is Defence still considering contracting an offshore ship repairer for the modification of HMAS Success.
- What is the current status of the tendering process, and when is a final decision on the tender to modify HMAS Success going to be made.
Mr Combet – The answer to the Honourable member’s question is as follows:
- In respect of the modification of HMAS Success,
- 12 January 2009. Seven registrations were received.
- 7 December 2009.
- 29 March 2010.
- Three companies responded, one proposed to undertake the work in Australia, the remaining two proposed to undertake the work overseas. The location of those countries is Commercial-In-Confidence, and can not be disclosed.
- Defence has not produced a shortlist of companies at this time.
- No decision on short listing has been taken at this time.
- All tenders are still under consideration, and accordingly I cannot provide further details of the companies or their bids.
- The tenders are under consideration. It is expected that a decision will be made by late August.
