Defence Land: Schofields Aerodrome

Mr Morrison asked the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 10 November 2008:

In respect of his department’s land at Schofields Aerodrome, will he confirm:

  1. that 146.1 hectares of surplus land on this site was listed for sale by tender with Jones Lang LeSalle; and
  2. that the closing date for tenders was Thursday 26 June 2008; and advise whether:
  3. this land was sold,
  4. the Commonwealth has any remaining interest in this land; and
  5. the contract for sale included any conditions relating to the future use of the land.

Mr Fitzgibbon - The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:

  1. Yes.
  2. Yes.
  3. No.
  4. Yes, as the land was not sold.
  5. No, but the tender conditions did include the following clauses:
    17.1     The sale of the Property is being conducted having regard to the Australian Government’s surplus land disposal objectives. These include:

    (a)     optimising sale proceeds within the context of the broader Australian Government sales and policy objectives;

    (b)     minimising the Australian Government’s exposure to residual risks and liabilities;

    (c)     ensuring that the successful Tenderer has the necessary financial and managerial capabilities to provide timely investment into appropriate infrastructure;

    (d)     ensuring the sale outcome is consistent with relevant policy requirements including environmental policy;

    (e)     ensuring the successful Tenderer demonstrates a commitment to the effective development of the Property; and

    (f)      achieving a sale outcome which contributes to a competitive, sustainable and efficient residential development.
