Mr Bevis asked the Minister representing the Minister for Defence, upon notice, on 14 February 2002:

  1. Which Defence properties are either presently listed for sale or being evaluated for possible sale during the course of the next three years.
  2. For each property, (a) when will the sale occur and (b) what consultations have occurred, or are planned to occur, with the local Members of Parliament and local community groups.

    1. Due to the nature of property transactions the specific date when a property will be sold is difficult to forecast. The above list of properties is scheduled to be divested from Commonwealth ownership over the next three years, noting the sale of some of the properties extend over a longer period of time.
    2. In developing a disposal strategy for a Defence property, consultation is a key element. The standard procedure is to advise or brief local Members of Parliament on the disposal of the property early in the disposal process, together with the provision of a departmental contact to provided for on-going consultation. The extent of consultation with the appropriate local council, interest groups and the community varies depending on the issues associated with the individual property.
