Spatial
Data Management Plan (SDMP) *Please note that the current SDMP is to be reviewed shortly
The ability
to view and query consistent spatial data of known accuracy and
quality in the context of Defence Estate data is fundamental to
DSG's capability planning and management needs. The SDMP was introduced
in June 2006 to standardise the management of DSG spatial data
and support these needs. The SDMP contains the national spatial
data standards and specifications for DSG.
The SDMP has
been developed to:
- provide
guidance on the preferred approach to spatial information management;
- standardise
the processes undertaken;
- ensure
reliable, consistent and high quality spatial data is available;
and
- enable
the successful development of a single, definitive National
Spatial Information Management System (NSIMS) for DSG;
- To provide a mechanism for DSG business areas to enable new spatial information products to be defined and managed.
Benefits to
DSG and you:
- reliable
and consistent data to enable more informed decision making;
- closer
integration with other Defence information systems, spatial data users and systems;
- portability
of staff skills; and
- greater
interoperability with organisations outside of Defence
The SDMP was
developed via consultations with DSG spatial information users
and with the Defence national spatial standards body DIGO, as
well as with reference to existing DSG spatial information standards
and specifications and with reference to existing and emerging
national spatial information standards and specifications.
The
SDMP supersedes all other DSG spatial standards and specifications.
Action
required
Users need
to now adopt and implement standards and specifications in the
SDMP and ensure external contractor compliance for all new spatial
data acquired by DSG.
The SDMP is
available internally on the intranet and externally
on the internet.
SDMP
Update as at 8th May 2007
SDMP Section
5 Spatial Metadata Specification has been further developed and
refined to address evolving national standards and the development
of DSG's National
Spatial Information Management System (NSIMS). Version 4.4
has been published on the IM.
SDMP Section
1 Guiding Principles has been revised to include the tables of
contents from each SDMP section to make the series of documents
easier to navigate. Additionally the Section 1 version number
acts as the overall version number for the SDMP. Each section
retains its own version number so readers can track changes in
each section, and the overall version will change with every iteration
of the document so it is easy to determine the latest copy. |
