Site Selection Step 2 - Establish the Project Type
Activity Considerations Outcome

1) Defence Project Officer confirms whether the project is:

  • a Defence project on Defence land

OR

  • a Defence project on land leased to Defence

OR

  • a Non-Defence project on Defence land or land leased from Defence

If the project is a Defence project on Defence land noting relevant paragraphs below proceed to Step 3.

If the project is either a Defence project on land leased to Defence or a non Defence project on Defence land or land leased from Defence, contact the Directorate of Property Leasing and Acquisition (DPLA) to determine the Lease provisions and then follow, in consultation with DPLA, the procedures detailed in DI(G) ADMIN 35-1.

In these cases dual approvals are required: approval that the nominated project is in accordance with the terms of the Lease and in compliance with DI(G) ADMIN 35-1 and in accordance with siting approval requirements.

If it is a project on a Defence Training Area, the procedures detailed in DI(G) ADMIN 59-1 also apply to siting approval requirements. Further guidance can be sought through the Directorate of Training Area Regulation and Policy (DTARP)

When new explosive ordnance (EO) facilities are planned for construction, where significant alterations to existing EO facilities are necessary or when non - explosive facilities which are likely to affect the storage and handling capacity of EO facility are to be sited, the requirements of DEOP.103 (AM1) Part 2, Section 1 are to be observed and read in conjunction with the Site Selection Process.

Project ownership and land tenure are established.

Leasing requirements are established or invoked.
