Welcome to the Management Audit Branch
Management Audit Branch (MAB) is one of two branches in the Inspector General (IG) Division. At MAB, our mission is to help Defence and DMO managers improve organisational performance and we do this by delivering an independent and objective review and advisory service that:
- Provides assurance to the Secretary, Chief of the Defence Force, and the Chief Executive Officer Defence Materiel Organisation that financial and operational controls designed to manage risks are operating in an efficient, effective and ethical manner; and
- Assists Defence Senior Managers and the DMO Executive in improving the business performance of their organisations.
Our internal auditors take a proactive role that assumes a risk-based focus. We do this by providing:
- National level, strategic performance audits across a range of business functions involving staff with a broad range of knowledge and skills. We have performance audit offices in Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane to facilitate regional fieldwork and to provide a regional presence and support local managers;
- Assurance services in specialist areas such as financial controls and compliance, information technology and project management and contracting. Our lead offices for these business functions are located in Canberra; and
- Consulting services such as the conduct of unscheduled audits in response to specific requests from Defence and DMO senior managers.
