Site Contamination Status
Over the past years, the Department of Defence has removed many of the existing contaminated areas to remediate the land so that it will be fit for use by the community.

Site Remediation Status
The site is undergoing remediation works to remove the contamination present and make the land fit for its intended purpose. Various areas of the site are at different stages of this remediation process, depending upon the staging of the development works.

Randwick Community Centre
The construction of the new Randwick Community Centre and Park commenced in December 2003 following construction approval from Randwick City Council. The Parliamentary Secreatary, the Hon. Fran Bailey, MP, and Randwick Mayor Dominic Sulliavn celebrated the commencement of the historic project with a ceremony of the breaking of the first ground.
The construction works for the facility and adjoining park were completed in early 2005.
The facility was handed over to Randwick City Council in early 2006.

Stage 1A Civil and Associated Works
In June 2003, Stage 1A of the Randwick Defence Site was sold to the Mirvac Group following the demoltion, remediation and validation, earthworks and construction of roads and services by Defence.
Mirvac have since constructed a number of residences on the Stage 1A land.

Occupational Health & Safety
All relevant safety and environmental standards are continuing to be implemented by all contractors undertaking site works on the site for Defence. The safety and environmental management plans have been reviewed by an Occupational Hygienist and are put in place for the protection of workers, surrounding residents and the environment. These plans include measures to ensure dust mitigation and control, air monitoring, noise and vibration minimisation, safe work practices, and emergency and reporting procedures.
All construction works will abide by the approvals given by Randwick City Council and other relevant authorities.

Access to Site
Residents are reminded that the Site is now undergoing active remediation, demolition and construction. It is in the interests of members of the public, as well as workers on the Site, that access is restricted to authorised personnel only through the security entrance from Avoca Street. Please do not enter any part of the Defence Site including the open space areas adjacent to the Moverly Green Precinct and the Department of Housing properties.
