Heritage & Archaelogogy

Defence understands and values the unique heritage aspects of the former Randwick Naval Stores property. In order to preserve the heritage significance of the Site, these assets and patterns of past use have been incorporated into the Master Planing process for future development.

For example, the strong rectangular design and "boulevard-like" streets will retain the historical pattern of the Naval Store Sheds layout, and the original doors from one of the Naval Store Sheds have been incorporated into a display at the new Randwick Community Centre.

The streets of the proposed new development have also been named to recognise some of the heritage significance of the site, as well as the environmental nature of the neighbourhood.

The Archaeological importance of the Site has been thoroughly investigated and all works are being completed in continued consultation with archaeological monitoring for potential remains or artefacts of significance.
