The former Naval Store Sheds
The former Naval Store Sheds at the
Randwick Defence Site

Overview

Defence requirements have changed considerably over the past 100 years when many properties were first acquired. Following a thorough assessment of these properties the Department of Defence has identified those no longer required and suitable for disposal.

Among these, the disposal of the former Naval Stores Site in Randwick provides a unique opportunity for quality community development in the eastern Sydney area.

The Department of Defence has undertaken a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the Site and, in close consultation with Randwick Council and the local community, has master planned a vision for the site expressing its two key qualities:

  • a new residential 'garden neighbourhood' responding to the suitability of part of the site for urban development; and
  • the creation of Randwick Environmental Park responding to the environmental and recreational qualities of the eastern part of the site.
