Defence has commenced planning and has appointed a contractor to remediate the contamination within the former Fire Training Area (FTA) at RAAF Base Williams, Point Cook. The appointed contractor is EnviroPacific Services, who is a specialised remediation, soil treatment and civil construction contractor. The contractor has commenced initial preparation and planning work associated with the remediation and is anticipated to mobilise to the FTA in the second half of this year. The soil remediation technology is called ‘ex situ thermal desorption’, and will remove contamination from the soil.  Once remediated, treated soil will be placed back at the FTA and the site will be revegetated.
