| Moorebank Units Relocation (MUR) Project - RAE Heritage |
|
|
A detailed Heritage Impact Assessment has been prepared for the new works, which considers the importance of preserving heritage items in the vicinity of the sites. Items which have been identified as having heritage value have been accounted for, and will not be impacted by the works.
Key aspects of the Heritage Impact Assessment include:
- A section of the Old Illawarra Road is located in the vicinity of the works. In this area, the old sandstone kerbing is visible and considered to have heritage value. This section of the road will not be impacted by the works.
- The P1 huts located at the former Gallipoli lines are considered to have heritage value. An example hut will be relocated into the vicinity of the Military Engineering Heritage and Learning Centre and maintained for public viewing.
SME is closely associated with the maintenance of the military heritage of the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE). The MUR Project includes the provision to relocate the RAE Heritage Precinct from Moorebank to Holsworthy Barracks and continue its operation there.
MUR will be consulting with all interested stakeholders regarding military heritage issues.
Below is an indicative list of schematic drawings which show the existing memorials at Holsworthy and Moorebank and the proposed works and locations of relocated memorials.
