Defence Infrastructure Division

Point Wilson Waterside Infrastructure Remediation (PWWIR) Project

Project Scope

The PWWIR project will refurbish PWEA waterside infrastructure to an operational state in order to recommence large scale Defence EO importation operations.

Upgrade and remediation of the wharf and jetty structure will allow the safe mooring and berthing of container vessels and the new LHD (Landing Helicopter Dock) Amphibious Assault Ships, for the purpose of loading and un-loading Defence EO.

The structure is at the end of its service life and requires an upgrade to improve the safety of operations and functionality.

The proposed works include:

  • A new wharf and link structure
  • Refurbished jetty piles and new jetty deck
  • Refurbished and new mooring and berthing infrastructure
  • Upgrade and replacement of the support infrastructure involving electrical, communications, hydraulics and fire services.

Due to the isolated location and restricted nature of PWEA the works will have minimal impact on the local community.

Subject to Government and Parliamentary approval, construction is expected to start in late 2018, with the intention for the facility to be operational in 2021.
