Moorebank Units Relocations (MUR) Project

Heathcote Road Works

As part of the Department of Defence’s Moorebank Units Relocation Project, road works have been completed on Heathcote Road, Macarthur Drive and The Avenue in Voyager Point.  The intersection was complete on 15 April 2014 and is open to construction traffic only as works within the Front Entry Precinct of Holsworthy Barracks is continuing.  It is expected to be open to all other base users early in 2015.

The road works included new turning lanes, traffic lights, and improved bike access and landscaping. Once work on the new front entry is fully complete, the improvements are expected to reduce overall traffic congestion in the area, and create an approximate 30 per cent reduction in congestion at the existing traffic bottleneck at the Macarthur Drive and Heathcote Rd intersection.

The road works on Heathcote Road, between Macarthur Drive and The Avenue in Voyager Point, included:

  • Relocating the Barracks entry from its current location close to Holsworthy Railway Station to approximately 800m south on Heathcote Road, away from the busy station precinct;
  • Upgrading 600 metres of Heathcote Road between the Williams Creek Bridge and railway overpass into a dual carriageway road;
  • Providing a new entry to Holsworthy Barracks with traffic lights and two dedicated turning lanes off Heathcote Road; and
  • Providing new drainage, street lights, pedestrian and cycle crossings, traffic signals, guardrails and landscaping and improved bicycle access.
