The Minister for Defence announced on 27 October 2003 that the Hawk aircraft would be introduced into service at RAAF Base Williamtown and Salt Ash Air Weapons Range.
The decision to introduce the aircraft into service was not taken lightly and included the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement under the supervision of the Department of the Environment and Heritage.
Following the introduction into service of the aircraft, the Australian Noise Exposure Forecasts to the year 2012 for both RAAF Base Williamtown and Salt Ash Air Weapons Range have been finalised and endorsed by the Department of Defence.
