The Directorate Defence Health Research Coordination (DDHRC) provides research governance and ethical review for health and medical research within Joint Health Command including assistance to researchers in preparing their applications for approval. DDHRC also supports the Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee which provides ethical review to human research greater than low risk Defence-wide.
DDHRC are responsible for requests for data access, low and negligible risk review of health research, monitoring of all health research along with ethical monitoring for Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC) approved research and managing the review of proposed publications and presentations.
In accordance with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct of Human Research, Joint Health Command has established a low risk panel to review research that is considered low or negligible risk research. For further information please refer to the Low Risk Ethical Review Panel page.
The Department of Defence has recently implemented the National Ethics Application Form as the approved pro forma for all new protocol submissions to Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC). The new pro forma is available at https://www.neaf.gov.au/default.aspx.
The Progress Report, Final Report and Protocol Amendment forms have been updated and a pro forma for the reporting of Adverse and Serious Adverse Events has been developed and are available on the Forms page.
Processes and procedures for ADHREC are also under review and we will continue to provide updates on changes as they occur. If you have any queries regarding the new and upcoming changes please contact the ADHREC Executive Officer at ADHREC@defence.gov.au or on 02 6266 3807.
