Higher Duties Allowance (HDA)
In a competency based salary structure, a member will be paid at a rate
based on competency level, rank loading and the position that they fill
(ie. MO will be paid for a competency level only if that MO has attained
that competency level and when posted to a position requiring that competency
level). Therefore, payment of HDA will be determined by the following
considerations:
- Unless qualified for the higher competency, HDA can be paid for the
rank component of salary only.
- If a member is qualified for the higher competency level and is expected
to fulfill the full range of duties of the position, then the member
can be paid at the bottom increment of the next higher competency rate.
- Unless promoted into the HDA position, the member will revert to their
normal rate upon completion of the HDA.
