Defence Health FoundationThe Defence Health Foundation is a new foundation established for the purposes of funding medical research designed to benefit serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Forces and their immediate families. Funding comes from the parent company, Defence Health Pty Ltd, which is a not-for-profit restricted private health insurer for the Defence community. Applications from eligible medical researchers to apply for Foundation research grants for 2010-11 are now open. The Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC) has recently reached a significant milestone by holding its 100th meeting. ADHREC is registered with the National Health and Medical Research Council and has been meeting regularly since November 1989 with the objective of promoting and encouraging ethical human research in the military context. The twelve members of ADHREC are appointed by the Minister for Defence to represent both Defence and the broader Australian community.
