Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee
Human Research Ethics Committee Members Wanted
The Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC) is currently seeking members for voluntary positions on the committee.
Expressions of interest are sought in all categories as outlined in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (NHMRC, 2007). Most positions will involve volunteering approximately four hours per month, subject to ebbs and flows, to review applications for experimental projects and attend a committee meeting.
Applicants must be eligible to obtain a Negative Vetting level 1 security clearance (not necessary on application- a process will be initiated for successful applicants). Applicants do not need to have a knowledge of, or be associated with, the military or Defence. Women and persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent are encouraged to apply.

ADHRECs mission is to promote and encourage
health research in the military context.
Clearly, such research needs to be of the highest
ethical standard, as the best research has as its essential ingredient,
best ethical practice.

Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee 100TH Meeting.
The Australian Defence Human Research Ethics Committee (ADHREC) has recently reached a significant milestone by holding its 100th meeting. ADHREC is registered with the National Health and Medical Research Council and has been meeting regularly since November 1989 with the objective of promoting and encouraging ethical human research in the military context. The twelve members of ADHREC are appointed by the Minister for Defence to represent both Defence and the broader Australian community.

Defence Health Foundation
The Defence Health Foundation is a new foundation established for the purposes of funding medical research designed to benefit serving and ex-serving members of the Australian Defence Forces and their immediate families. Funding comes from the parent company, Defence Health Pty Ltd, which is a not-for-profit restricted private health insurer for the Defence community.
Applications from eligible medical researchers to apply for Foundation research grants for 2010-11 are now open. Full details can be found at www.defencehealthfoundation.org.au including the Research Grant Guidelines and the Application Form.
