1800 IMSICK (1800 467 425)A service for ADF Personnel within Australia1800 IMSICK is a toll free after - hours nationwide 1800 telephone service available for all permanent Australian Defence Force members within Australia. This service is not intended as an emergency number. In the event of an emergency callers are to call 000. The IMSICK line is managed by Health Services Branch and co-coordinated by the Directorate of Defence Clinical Services (DDCS) with the support of the Regional Health Services and Defence health units. The IMSICK line provides advice to ADF personnel regarding the location of the nearest Defence health unit should health care be urgently required. If a Defence health unit is not available locally then the IMSICK line will provide a referral number for the ADF member to attend a civilian health service for urgent health care. Members attending civilian health services remain responsible to notify their servicing health unit of the occurrence. How will the telephone service operate? When a member is ill or injured away from the work place they may call 1800 467 425. The call will be automatically diverted to a Defence health unit. The duty health personnel will record the member's personal details and provide advice regarding the location of the nearest appropriate Defence health unit. If a Defence health unit is not locally available a referral number for the member to attend a civilian health service may be provided. Some civilian health service providers may require the member to pay for the service at the time of consultation in which case the member is to submit the account with the referral number to the Regional Health Service in the members posted locality for reimbursement. Admission to civilian hospitalIf an ADF member is admitted to a civilian hospital they are to notify their posted unit and servicing health unit. If the member is not able to contact either then the IMSICK line is to be advised. 17 February, 2011 |
