About Joint Health Command (JHC)

The Joint Health Command Mission

To provide health support to the Australian Defence Force.

The Joint Health Command Function

Joint Health Command (JHC) provides health care and, from the health perspective, ensures the preparedness of ADF personnel for operations, as well as preparing deployable elements of JHC for deployment in support of operations. To effect this JHC develops strategic health policy, provides strategic level health advice and exercises technical and financial control of ADF health units. The Joint Health Support Agency coordinates the provision of high quality health support within the National Support Area. Health staff within Joint Operations Command (JOC) and the environmental commands are responsible for health aspects of deployable capability.

Our Purpose

Vision

"A World Class Military Health Service"

  • Preparedness will be sustained by developing and matching health capabilities in support of the ADF.  Standards of health care for the Defence dependency will be clearly defined.  Suitable command and control arrangements will operate within Joint Health Command and it will be directed by effective leadership and guided by quality management.

  • Joint Health Command will be a recognised leader and provider of quality health care through an efficient and adaptive Service health care system.  World class health care will be delivered to the ADF through resources provided by or managed through Joint Health Command.  Accreditation of quality assurance for ADF health facilities will be achieved through the use of standardised equipment, training and work practices that meet modern treatment processes.

  • A seamless system of health support will be provided from the point of injury or illness to recovery or rehabilitation.  Universal health support and coverage will be available to meet the ADF health requirements.  Interoperabilty will exist between Joint Health Command and civilian and foreign military health services.  There will be excellent cooperation and partnering between Defence and the civilian health community.

  • The Joint Health Command work force will be fully integrated under a unified system using uniformed members, Defence civilians and contractors in the delivery and management of health care.  An accredited and multi-skilled workforce will be the Joint Health Command most respected resource. Military and professional development of staff will be matched to acquire competencies that enhance the delivery of health support.

  • Resource usage will be managed with accountability, value for money and will be linked to readiness and other Defence related outcomes.  Sufficient resources will be won to achieve the Joint Health Command vision.

  • Technology will be sought and adopted to optimise and provide advantage in the delivery of health care.  A comprehensive Health Management System will be integrated with human resource, logistic and other personnel systems.
