3. When will this trial commence?
Answer: The trial is being conducted in two stages. Stage 1 commenced on May 2009 in:
- Singleton (NSW);
- Katherine (NT) including Derby (WA);
- Cairns including Mt Isa, Weipa and Thursday Island (QLD);
- Sale (VIC); and
- the Pilbara region including Karratha, Port Hedland, Carnarvon, Tom Price, Newman and Exmouth (WA).
Stage 2 of the trial will commence 1 October 2009 and include:
- Townsville, including Tully (QLD);
- Darwin including Alice Springs and Nhulunbuy (NT) as well as Broome and Kununurra (WA); and
- Puckapunyal (VIC).

4. Can the limit on dental be applied across the family so that my 3 dependants have $900 to use, rather than $300 each?
Answer: No, the allocation of $300 per dependant per year is linked to the individual dependant.
5. My child requires dental work over $300. Can we use the money allocated for my spouse to cover this cost?
Answer: No, the allocation of $300 per dependant per year is linked to the individual dependant.
6. I did not use the $300 allocated for dental last calendar year. Will it roll over to the next calendar year?
Answer: No, the allocation of $300 per dependant per calendar year does not roll over, nor does any unused component of the benefit.
7. Are my prescriptions covered by this service?
Answer: No, prescriptions are not covered by this healthcare trial. See question 1 for more information on what is covered.

8. If I need to travel to access medical services, will the cost of travel be covered?
Answer: Travel is not covered under this trial. However, in some circumstances travel may be covered under other Defence programs.
9. Are visits to hospital covered by this trial?
Answer: No, hospital visits are not covered, but will continue to be supported by existing Medicare entitlements.
10. Can I attend my own general practitioner or dentist to receive the benefits associated with this trial?
Answer: To ensure all registered dependants in the trial locations receive the medical benefits associated with the trial, different models are being delivered to suit specific locations. Information to determine the model of delivery in your location, and the medical practitioners.
You can continue to use your dentist of choice to access the dental benefits.
