1. Who is eligible to participate in this trial?

Answer: Dependants of permanent ADF members, or dependants of reservists on continuous full-time service, who meet the following criteria will be entitled to register to receive the benefits associated with this trial:

  • reside in a trial region;
  • are recognised ADF dependant;
  • are recognised for ADF housing purposes;
  • are accompanying the member who is posted to a trial location.

 

2. Who is defined as a dependant?

Answer: This trial will utilise the Pay and Conditions Manual (PACMAN v2) (volume 1, chap 1, part 3, division 2) definition of a recognised dependant. Dependant data must be current in PMKeyS utilising form AD160 Dependant Details.

 

3. Will this service be extended to the dependants of all ADF members?

Answer: In line with the Government’s evidence-based policy, a small-scale trial has commenced in certain regional and remote locations.

4. Are there any additional provisions for dependants with special needs?

Answer: This trial has no additional provisions for dependants with special needs. The ADF acknowledges that members who have dependants with special needs (FWSN) may require particular assistance as a direct result of the member’s mobility and relocation. Additional support is available through existing programs.

 

5. My partner is currently deployed and a relative has come to assist me with the family. Are they eligible to register for the trial?

Answer: If your relative is a dependant recognised by the Chief of the Defence Force (CDF), they may register for the trial. For more information on CDF recognised dependants, see PACMAN v2 (Vol 1, chap 1, part 3, division 2).

 

6. As a foster parent, are my foster children recognised as dependants?

Answer: If they are a dependant, recognised by CDF, they are eligible. For more information on CDF recognised dependants, see PACMAN v2 (Vol 1, chap 1, part 3, division 2). The foster parent may sign the registration form as the Guardian for foster children under the age of 14.

7. I have been posted to a region not covered by this trial and will be unaccompanied. My dependants have elected to remain in the entitled region. Will they still be eligible to receive the benefits associated with this trial?

Answer: Yes, if the dependants remain in the eligible region they will still be covered.

 

8. I am living unaccompanied in a region covered by this trial. Are my dependants covered if they live outside of this region?

Answer: No, your dependants are only covered if they are residing in the entitled region. See question 1 for the definition of ‘entitled region'.

 

9. If I am a registered dependant, can I access the benefits associated with the trial in other trial locations?

Yes. Information related to accessing medical. Dental benefits may be accessed at any dentist anywhere in Australia

 

10. Are the dependants of reservists eligible to receive the benefits of this trial??

Answer: The dependants of reservist members on continuous full-time service of greater than 6 months are eligible. See question 1 for eligibility to participate in the trial.

 

11. I have recently married and my spouse is not currently eligible for Medicare benefits. Will my spouse be eligible to register for the trial?

Answer: If your spouse is a CDF recognised dependant, your spouse is eligible to register for the trial. For more information on CDF recognised dependants, see PACMAN v2 (Vol 1, chap 1, part 3, division 2). Upon registration, your spouse will be issued with information on how to access and claim medical benefits. Please ensure you indicate on the ADF Family Health Registration form that your spouse is not eligible for Medicare benefits by ticking the appropriate box.

 

12. How do I access medical benefits if I reside in a trial location with no participating medical practitioners?

Answer:If you are a registered dependant residing in a location with no participating medical practitioners, a specific model of delivery has been implemented for your location to ensure you still have access to the medical benefits associated with the trial.  Information is available specific to your location.
