Directorate of ADF Rehabilitation Services

About Us

The Directorate of ADF Rehabilitation Services is responsible to the Commander Joint Health and the Service Chiefs for overseeing the effective and efficient coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services to the Services and Groups in accordance with Defence Instruction (General) Personnel 16-22, The Australian Defence Force rehabilitation program.

The Directorate is responsible for:

  1. Development, implementation and interpretation of policies, procedures and standards;
  2. Continued development of ADF Rehabilitation Coordinators to meet current and future ADFRP service delivery;
  3. Education and communication with stakeholders;
  4. Evaluation and reporting on performance and compliance; and
  5. Procurement of case management services.

ADF Rehabilitation Coordinators

The ADF Rehabilitation Coordinators are responsible for managing the ADFRP through the Area Health Services (AHS) located in various regions throughout Australia. They work to the Senior Health Officer (SHO) of the AHS to which they are appointed and are responsive to the needs of units and commanders in coordinating rehabilitation services for their members. Their duties are:

  1. As the delegate of the Rehabilitation Authority, arrange and coordinate rehabilitation assessments and rehabilitation plans.
  2. Procure and manage rehabilitation case management service providers and monitor their performance.
  3. Monitor and review member's rehabilitation plans.
  4. Assist in the development and implementation of the ADF Rehabilitation Program.
  5. Manage, collect, analyse and report performance data and expenditure.
  6. Manage rehabilitation related administration activities including rehabilitation database, operating procedures and documents.
  7. Manage effective workplace relationships including the coordination of activity and the flow of information between members, senior commanders and managers, internal and external health and rehabilitation providers, and the Department of Veterans' Affairs.

Program Case Manager

The Program Case Manager (PCM) is responsible for a Rehabilitation Assessment and, if required, for formulating, implementing and managing a member's Rehabilitation Plan. Once a PCM has been appointed, a rehabilitation goal will be determined based on the findings of the assessment. The PCM will continue to review and assess that member's progress and recommend rehabilitation plan changes to the RC.
