Mission

To support new vaccine and diagnostic research to protect Australian Defence Force personnel against arbovirus infections. In support of this mission the department assesses candidate vaccines in animal models as well as supporting phase II and III clinical trials of arbovirus vaccines. Accredited arbovirus serology is provided to support other ADF medical units.

  1. Dengue DNA Chimeric vaccines in mice.

  2. Genetic control of the production of neutralising antibodies to dengue virus.

  3. Laboratory support to Phase II clinical trials of candidate Japanese Encephalitis vaccine ChimeriVax™-JE and the Yellow Fever vaccine Stamaril®.

  4. Evaluation of Australian mosquito vectors for the transmission candidate Japanese encephalitis vaccine - ChimeriVax™-JE.

  5. NATA accredited serology testing in support of ADF operations and other ADF medical units.

  6. Dengue diagnosis, risk assessment and control collaboration with Department of Military Medicine, Vietnam.
