DMO Materiel Graduate Scheme - Procurement and Contracting
I'm ashamed to say that initially it was the pay that attracted me to Defence, but what has kept me here is the access to high quality supervisors and the rewarding nature of the work. In the Defence Materiel Organisation, what we do every day is something that matters and has a real affect on the serving men and women of the Australian Defence Force.
Simon admits experiencing 'culture shock' when he arrived at Defence straight from university. But he said his 18-months at the DMO provided a fantastic opportunity for me to “cut my teeth” in the public service
. He said this was not an opportunity that will be afforded everywhere and was exceptionally good for dealing with the culture shock
.
He said the best part of the Pathway was the 'access to training and learning opportunities'. In particular, he noted the 'familiarisation tour and the rotation model'.
Since graduating in January 2012, Simon has been providing contracting and legal advice on the procurement of various electronic systems. My ability to perform in this role has been significantly aided by my participation in the Procurement and Contracting Pathway,
he said.
He said over the next two years, he has no plans of leaving the organisation, but wish to be well into the process of being vetted for an executive level position
.
Simon completed this Development Pathway in January 2012.
