DMO Materiel Graduate Scheme - Procurement and Contracting

Career opportunities, networking, socialising, travelling ... this Pathway has it all! I've really enjoyed getting to work on a variety of different projects and positions before settling into my final placement, not to mention the special opportunities that grads are given to see the actual equipment that is in use by the military.

Navjeet had known from a very young age that she wanted to work for Defence. I have an overwhelming respect for those who serve in the Navy, Army and Air Force, and derive great satisfaction from knowing that the work done by the Defence Materiel Organisation has a direct impact on the services.

For me, the appeal of undertaking a Development Pathway with Defence was the sense of "giving back" to those who defend and protect Australia. The opportunity to work around the country and live in places that I would not otherwise have made the effort to live in was also a big drawcard.

Navjeet believes her Pathway has definitely provided a good platform for building my career as it has exposed me to a variety of areas within DMO, and has allowed me to develop a holistic understanding of Defence.

In addition, she said working in three different areas over the course of the Pathway had allowed her to build a solid network of contacts, not only in terms of fellow graduates, but also in terms of staff from a variety of Pathways and levels throughout the organisation.

It's really hard to say exactly where I would like to be in two years, as I keep coming across so many fascinating projects and exciting opportunities within DMO and the broader Defence portfolio; I feel like a kid in a candy shop!

Navjeet completed this Development Pathway in January 2012.
