Defence Pathways - Graduate Development Program - Information Technology

Dean Mendygral

One of the good opportunities you are presented with in a Development Pathway is that all the people you are with in the intake are also new to Canberra, giving you the chance to build a new network of friends, colleagues and memories.

For Dean, it was the chance to move to a new city, the thought of working alongside the military and making a contribution to defending Australia and its interests, that saw him sign up for the Information Technology Development Pathway.

He said what he enjoyed most was the opportunity to travel around Australia and get a hands-on look at how the Australian Defence Force goes ahead with its day-to-day activities. He said he travelled to the Solomon Islands and East Timor to watch the ADF play their role in the peacekeeping missions there. These were definitely the best parts of the Pathway for me.

He said he felt the Pathway had given him a firm foundation for his career, due to the copious amount of training opportunities you are presented with, the chance to visit Defence bases, see some awesome military equipment, and the great network of colleagues that you can rely on after the Pathway for mentoring, friendship, and possibly new work opportunities!

Dean is now working as a Business Analyst within Defence. I am required to talk to stakeholders, gather their requirements and concerns for new initiatives and projects that we are currently going through.

Dean completed this Development Pathway in 2010.
