Defence Pathways - Graduate Development Program - People
This Development Pathway exceeded all my expectations and applying was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Through opportunities like the Study Tour and Senior Officer Briefs during my graduate year, I had the chance to see and experience things I could never have imagined before I joined this Pathway.
Ashley was an Australian Army Cadet as a teenager and considered applying for the Australian Defence Force Academy or the Reserves when he graduated from high school. But he decided what he really wanted to do was pursue further studies in business and commerce.
When it came time to apply for jobs after graduating from university, the People Pathway offered an excellent opportunity to utilise the skills I had learned and developed in university, while also contributing to a fascinating organisation I had a passion for.
He cited the three work rotations he undertook in different areas of the Department as the highlight of this Development Pathway. He said, The rotations allowed me to gain a deep and diverse insight into the operation of such a large government department, while developing myself both personally and professionally. And from graduates to work colleagues, I made a great network of friends and acquaintances.
Ashley said he believed this Pathway had given him a fantastic platform to build my career, both within Defence, the Australian Public Service, and in the private sector. I believe this Development Pathway has prepared me extremely well for a career in my chosen field.
Ashley completed this Development Pathway in 2011.
