Defence Pathways - Graduate Development Program - Generalist

Adam Constantini

There were many highlights for me as a graduate in the Generalist Pathway. From living in NSW for three months on different Defence estates, exploring a World War 2 base in Central Queensland to taking a day trip on a C-17 with the Minister of Defence. I had some unique opportunities.

Adam Constantini chose to apply for the Department of Defence because he knew the Department of Defence was a unique and diverse organisation, and felt it could provide the opportunity to work in a range of areas for the same employer.

He said the 10-month Generalist Pathway far exceeded his expectations, both workwise and socially.

The study tour was a highlight, touring various Defence estates, engaging with Australian Defence Force personnel and learning about what is important to them. The training and development throughout the Pathway ensured I was well equipped for work in the Department.

Adam also enjoyed the social opportunities offered by moving to a new city and meeting new people.

The social aspect was awesome. The excitement of moving to another city with 60-odd other people with similar interests to you meant that there was always something to do on weekends! I enjoyed making a contribution to our social committee, which funded a yearbook and a ball at the end of the year.

Adam is now working as a Capability Analyst on emerging aerospace projects. This involves researching and analysing the capability we are to procure and identify risks associated with the project prior to government consideration.

Adam cautioned prospective graduates not to be tied to an idea of where they would end up in the Department. I came into the Pathway with some idea of what work I would be interested in, but my final rotation was working in an area I had never considered before. There are so many opportunities at Defence.

Adam completed this Development Pathway in 2011.
