The Selection Process
To help us find those graduates best suited to working within the Department, we use a combination of selection techniques.
Stage 1 - Applications
Applications will be open online at https://defencecareers.nga.net.au/cp/?audiencetypecode=gdp.
Applicants are required to complete an on-line application addressing selection criteria. Candidates are also required to detail academic background, current and previous employment, and to nominate referees.
- It is recommended that applicants read the Hints & Tips on Writing Public Service Applications before applying.
- Address each criterion, make it easy to read and please watch your spelling!
- Proofread carefully to see if you any words out.
Stage 2 – Online Testing
If your application is successful you will then be invited to partake in online testing which assess both cognitive and analytical ability.
Stage 3 - Assessment Centres
Applicants ranked suitable on the basis of both their written application and online testing will be invited to attend an assessment centre. Assessment centres are held in each State capital and will be conducted during June to July.
You will be invited to spend the day with assessors from Defence. We use a range of activities and exercises to assess competency for a graduate position with the Department.
- It is strongly recommended that applicants read What to Expect at an Assessment Centre before they attend. Further information regarding the Assessment Centre schedule will be forwarded to successful candidates.
- Be engaged, show you can work in a team and demonstrate your strengths!
