Rotations

Variety is the key - rotations are available in a wide range of functions within Defence. We will provide graduates with three (3) diverse workplace rotations of approximately 3 months in duration with a focus on skills development. Your first rotation will be in Canberra, with the opportunity for regional placements during second and third rotations.

All rotations are designed to challenge you, with a definable project or task mutually agreed upon by you and your supervisor.  Within your workplace rotations you may find yourself undetaking (but not limited to):

  • Developing and implementing international and strategic policy
  • Undertaking intelligence analysis and producing assessments
  • Contributing to strategic civilian workforce planning
  • Asset management, managing significant resources and accrual and output management
  • Budgeting
  • Capability and resource analysis
  • Assisting with the negotiation of the next certified agreement and its implementation
  • Managing contracts and negotiating with consultants
  • Working with industry on service provision and acquisition projects
  • Contributing to the development and management of environmental programs.

Regional Placements

Whilst all graduates will be based in Canberra for their first rotation, there may be an opportunity for a regional placement during the second or third rotation.  In previous years graduates have undertaken rotations at Defence establishments in Sydney, Darwin, Nowra, Williamtown, Townsville and Amberley.

Final Placement

At the successful completion of the Program you will be placed in a final placement within the Department. The successful graduate will be promoted to an APS 4 in a process based on merit.
