The Intelligence and Security Group is looking for innovative people who are interested in applying their scientific background to a variety of complex intelligence problems. Graduates in this stream will be required to use their initiative, creativity, advanced research skills and scientific expertise to contribute to critical intelligence assessments or to develop key enabling capabilities.

Scientific intelligence analysts contribute to dynamic and talented teams that make a vital difference to Australia’s national security. You will have the opportunity to work alongside subject matter experts, continue to hone your scientific, analytical, teamwork and communication skills and be part of the broader scientific community. This will include interaction with the Defence Science and Technology Organisation and intelligence community scientists, as well as national research organisations, academia and industry.

DIGO GEOINT Scientists contribute to the development of DIGO’s advanced capabilities through research, applied science, innovation and advocacy of remote sensing technologies. You will support intelligence production through the development of innovative and cutting edge tools, applications, methodologies and products. In doing so, you will work closely with various analytical and scientific communities to utilise their expertise and keep abreast of cutting-edge technologies.

As a graduate in DIO’s scientific intelligence stream you will undertake research and analysis and formulate assessments that provide strategic warning of emerging threats or guide Australia’s efforts to prevent the spread of nuclear, biological and chemical weapons. You will be given opportunities to extend your scientific skills, receive training in the tradecraft of intelligence and travel internationally to share ideas with a community of scientific intelligence experts.

For roles as scientific intelligence analysts, we are seeking people with strong skills and/or experience in the following disciplines;

  • Actuarial Studies
  • Biology or Chemistry or Environmental Science
  • Engineering (particularly chemical)
  • Geomatics or Remote Sensing or Geographic Information Systems
  • Maths or Physics
  • Statistics
