The GDP Infrastructure development pathway is seeking professional and innovative team-players to help design, manage, maintain and develop one of Australia’s largest and most diverse real estate portfolios to keep pace with Defence’s changing capabilities.

Overview:

Pathway highlights:

  • Tailored suite of training that covers leadership, technical, departmental and general skills, needed in the Australian Public Service.
  • On-the-job and off-the-job training, including week-long Study Tour of Defence facilities outside of Canberra.
  • In each rotation you will gain vast exposure to the Defence enterprise through meaningful work, such as engaging and managing contractor teams for projects involving aircraft hangers, ship repair facilities, military training facilities, as well as specialised research and technical facilities.
  • Master planning of major Defence establishments an developing policy to protect Defence from external land use conflict.

The Defence Infrastructure Division performs a vital role in the development, management, maintenance and disposal of the Defence estate, managing infrastructure that supports over 100,000 personnel across Australia and overseas, with assets worth around $20 billion. Many Defence premesis are recognised internationally for their conservation or heritage values.

This pathway takes 10-months to complete and comprises of three rotations of three months each. The first of these is undertaken in Canberra, with the possibility of one in a regional area for those who want a further challenge.

We are seeking graduates with knowledge and qualifications across a range of disciplines to help build and equip the Defence organisational enterprise for the future.

Areas you may work in include:

  • Engaging consultants and contractors to develop and deliver projects as diverse as aircraft hangars, ship repair facilities, military training facilities and specialised research and technical facilities
  • Assessing development impacts on the sustainability of the Defence estate as well as off-base impacts from Defence operations
  • Interacting with various user groups including Army, Navy and Air Force at all levels
  • Participating in Infrastructure related projects during all stages of delivery – from conception through to final completion
  • Planning for the future Defence estate using your strategic planning or land planning skills
  • Developing plans and ensuring Defence projects meet government environmental guidelines and legislation
  • Travel to Defence bases throughout Australia
