As part of the Defence Support and Reform Group (DSRG), Infrastructure Division (ID) manages the development, strategic management, sustainment and disposal of the Defence estate: one of the largest real estate portfolios in Australia. ID provides facilities and infrastructure in support of the activities of personnel across Australia and overseas. The estate consists of approximately 394 properties (including 72 significant bases) and millions of hectares of land including five world heritage areas.
Estate Planning (EP) Branch
EP Branch has responsibility for planning that shapes a strategically aligned, sustainable and affordable estate that supports Defence capability. This includes: strategic planning to address long term challenges for the estate; ensuring that facilities and training area requirements are scoped and costed in Defence capability projects; managing the estate investment program which includes capital facilities works, maintenance and leasing; base development planning and project development; development of policy for managing the Defence estate and managing external land use matters such as urban encroachment and assessing development applications.
Environment and Engineering (EE) Branch
EE Branch is responsible for the development of environment and heritage policies, and the management of associated programs and estate engineering and maintenance policies. EE Branch also develops and maintains the Defence Environmental Management System, facilitates the ongoing development of the Infrastructure Division Technical Regulatory System and manages issues associated with unexploded ordinance.
Capital Facilities and Infrastructure (CFI) Branch
CFI Branch supports ID, DSRG and Government by managing the development and delivery of facilities and infrastructure to enable Australian Defence capability, including the approval processes of Major Works through the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works. The capital facilities and infrastructure portfolio includes new major and medium projects, facility upgrades and redevelopments.
The Branch is responsible for delivering two key programs:
Property Management (PM) Branch
The PM Branch is responsible for the management of Defence’s real estate transactions including property acquisitions, disposals and the leasing program. The Single Living Environment and Accommodation Precinct Program (Single LEAP), ACT Office Accommodation, indigenous land matters, and mining on the Defence estate are also managed by the branch.
