DIRECTOR GENERAL FAIRNESS AND RESOLUTION

Contributes to Defence capability by providing coordinated policy and services which promote fairness and appropriate resolution of grievances from members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) or employees of the Department of Defence.

Directorate of Rights and Responsibilities (RR)

Directorate of Rights and Responsibilities develops policy on equity, diversity, privacy, complaints and unacceptable behaviour. Reports on unacceptable behaviour across Defence, and monitors and reports on FR Branch performance.

Directorate of Complaint Resolution (CR)

Directorate of Complaint Resolution reviews ADF grievances referred to Service Chiefs and Chief of the Defence Force; conducts Australian Public Service (APS) Reviews of Actions; investigates and responds to complaints lodged with the Commonwealth and Defence Force Ombudsman, the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission and the Federal Privacy Commissioner.

Directorate of Alternative Resolutions and Equity (ARE)

Directorate of Alternative Resolutions and Equity provides advice, interventions and education packages on the prevention and management of conflict and disputes, as well as promoting equity within Defence.  Through the Directorate’s Fairness and Resolution Centres, the ARE Directorate manages the Equity Adviser Network, equity and diversity training, and provides Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) interventions (such as interactive problem solving, mediation, conflict coaching and group facilitation) and professional development for Defence ADR practitioners and Equity Advisers.  The Directorate is located in Brindabella Park, Canberra.  Enquiries and requests for ADR assistance can be made in person, over the telephone, via Comtrack in PMKeys Self Service or via email. Mediation and Group Facilitation will only be conducted upon request from Command or management and after assessment by FRC staff confirming the dispute appropriate for ADR intervention.
