Redresses of Grievance

The CO/Supervisor should be your first point of contact in submitting a redress of grievance.  The staff of CR are available to provide advice on the relevant complaint policies and processes.  Contact Us. Alternatively members should contact their Unit Adjutant or Administration Officer.

APS Review of Actions

Further information on the processes involved in submitting a review of actions application may be obtained by contacting the Complaint Resolution general advice number (02) 6127 2971 or the Deputy Director Administrative Review on (02) 6127 2994.

Commonwealth and Defence Force Ombudsman

The Commonwealth Ombudsman investigates complaints from the general public about the administrative actions of Defence. The Defence Force Ombudsman investigates complaints from serving members, former members and the families of present and former Australian Defence Force members.  Further advice or information is available from the Ombudsman website at http://www.ombudsman.gov.au or by phoning 1300 362 072.

Australian Human Rights Commission

The Australian Human Rights Commission is responsible for conducting investigations into allegations of discrimination and human rights infringements.  Further advice or information is available from the Commission's website at http://www.humanrights.gov.au or by phoning (02) 6207 0525.

Privacy

If your complaint concerns an issue of Privacy and you require information on submitting a complaint, contact Complaint Resolution on (02) 6127 2971. If you require information or advice on Privacy policy issues, please call (02) 6127 2958.  Alternatively, information on Privacy is available from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner website at http://www.privacy.gov.au

Security

Complaints concerning a decision to deny or withdraw a security clearance can be made directly to CR. For APS employees, this will be reviewed under the Public Service Act Review of Actions provisions. Members of the ADF should submit a Redress of Grievance if the decision affects their military service. Further information can be obtained from the Defence Security Authority or by contacting Complaint Resolution on (02) 6127 2971.

Alternative Dispute Resolution

Alternative Dispute Resolution is used to complement existing command and management processes. Alternative Dispute Resolution includes mediation, workplace conference and facilitated negotiation. Code of Conduct

Iinformation on breaches or potential breaches of the APS Code of Conduct is contained in the Defence Workplace Relations Manual Chapter 10, Part 2 Breach of the Code of Conduct.

Equity Matters

The Defence Equity Advice Line is a free call number - 1800 803 831- which is staffed between 0900-2000 hrs Monday - Friday (excluding Christmas Day). The advice line provides a confidential information and referral service for all Defence members. Callers can ask about their rights and options before taking action relating to any form of harassment or discrimination.

There are a number of Regional Defence Equity Coordinators who can advise individuals and supervisors or commanders on equity and diversity matters.   Senior Equity Advisers and Equity Advisers are trained personnel who are volunteers available locally to provide advice on Equity and Diversity issues to complainants, respondents and management.Each base or establishment has support staff to advise and assist with equity and diversity matters. Depending on the nature of the incident, you may seek advice from any of these people.

Inspector General

The Inspector General is responsible for the investigation of allegations of fraud and unethical behaviour and management of professional reporting (whistleblowing) within Defence. For further information, view the Inspector General intranet site at http://intranet.defence.gov.au/ig/GIR/index.htm

Inspector General ADF

The role of the Inspector General ADF is to provide an avenue for complaints of unacceptable behaviour, including victimisation, abuse of authority, and avoidance of due process where chain of command considerations discourage recourse to normal avenues of complaint.
