Branch Description

Fairness and Resolution (FR) Branch helps Defence create and maintain a working environment where diversity is valued and people treat each other fairly and with respect.

FR Branch provides advice and support to managers and complainants to resolve complaints at the lowest possible level through normal command or management channels and administrative arrangements. FR is responsible for the provision of alternative dispute resolution processes such as conflict coaching and mediation. The branch also manages the formal complaints system: accessed when informal or administrative processes fail.

The branch has policy responsibilities for equity, diversity, privacy and the integrated complaint handling system; it is also responsible for managing and providing advice on a broad range of complaint types (unacceptable behaviour, Redress of Grievance, Review of Actions, privacy breaches, AHRC and the Commonwealth/Defence Force Ombudsman).

The Director-General, Fairness and Resolution (DGFR) operates independently of the chain of command and is directly responsible to the CDF and Secretary in accordance with the terms of Joint Directive No 1/2006.
