We welcome information about enquiries or approaches from potential customers (who can be either domestic or overseas) that you think are suspicious. Your suspicions may arise due to concerns about the consignee or end user, the country of destination, the type of goods being sought, the stated end use, the quantity, or the payment/finance terms. We may pass information on to other agencies, including law enforcement and security agencies, for analysis and further investigation. Remember, every piece of information helps.
You may report a suspicious approach by contacting us by phone or in writing.
You are not obliged to provide personal information to us, and you may provide your information anonymously. However, providing your contact details to DEC will allow us to seek clarification, or to gain further information from you if we need to do so.
We appreciate you providing us with as much information as possible about the suspicious approach, as this will allow us to investigate your report quickly.
You may contact DEC during or after business hours, and feel free to remain anonymous. Your confidentiality is assured, and you do not have to give your name if you don't want to. Our staff can ask you questions, so you can be sure you are providing really useful information.
The information you provide to us is collected for the purpose of maintaining the integrity of Australian export controls and the enforcement of Commonwealth and State laws. Your information will not be used for any other purpose, unless authorised or required by law.
