Aircraft of United States Navy Air Wing 5 on board the USS Kittyhawk, are taking part in the live fire exercise during Talisman Saber 07. This visit by the USS Kittyhawk marks the last deployment of the vessel to Australia, before she is decommissioned at years end.

The Talisman Saber series of exercises are conducted biennially in Australia with the United States. Talisman Saber 2007 is designed to train Australian and US Forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations, which will help improve ADF/US combat readiness and interoperability.

Australia's strategic alliance with the US is a national asset, resulting in major strategic, political and economic benefits. As well, Australia's defence and intelligence capabilities, including in relation to terrorism, also benefit from the critical role played by exercises such as TS07.

Talisman Saber 2007 focuses on operational level war fighting with training based on fictional scenarios that vary according to location between ground, air and marine activities in conjunction with simulated exercises.

Key sites for Talisman Saber 2007 are located in Queensland, Northern Territory and the Coral Sea namely:
