Amphibious training with US Marines

Australian troops from the 20th Surveillance and Target Acquisition Regiment (20 STA REGT), have conducted familiarisation training with US Marines and their AAV-7s, commonly known as Amtracks, from the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, at the Shoalwater Bay training Area during Exercise Talisman Saber 07.

The Talisman Saber series of exercises are conducted biennially in Australia with the United States. Talisman Saber 2007 is designed to train Australian and US Forces in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations, which will help improve ADF/US combat readiness and interoperability.

Australia's strategic alliance with the US is a national asset, resulting in major strategic, political and economic benefits. As well, Australia's defence and intelligence capabilities, including in relation to terrorism, also benefit from the critical role played by exercises such as TS07.

Talisman Saber 2007 focuses on operational level war fighting with training based on fictional scenarios that vary according to location between ground, air and marine activities in conjunction with simulated exercises.

Key sites for Talisman Saber 2007 are located in Queensland, Northern Territory and the Coral Sea namely:
Shoalwater Bay Training Area;
Townsville Field Training Area; and
Bradshaw Field Training Area.
