Defence held two community events on 31 October 2018 to provide the local community an update on the detailed environmental investigations into PFAS on, and in the vicinity of, RAAF Base Townsville and Lavarack Barracks.
A community information session was held to provide the findings of the RAAF Base Townsville Human Health Risk Assessment Report, the Lavarack Barracks project team were also available to provide an update on the progress of the investigation. Members of both investigation teams were available to answer questions.
A community shopfront was also held where members of the Lavarack Barracks project were available to provide an update on the progress of the investigation as well as answer questions.
On 9 May the Department of Defence held a Community Walk-in Session to provide the local community with an update on the detailed environmental investigation into per- and poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on, and in the vicinity of, RAAF Base Townsville.
The Townsville Investigation team presented the findings of the Detailed Site Investigation Report and advised of the next stage of the investigation.

From 29 to 30 November Defence held Community Walk-in Sessions at Townsville to provide an update on the results of the detailed environmental investigation into per- and poly- fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on and in the vicinity of RAAF Base Townsville. Community members were also given an opportunity to fill in Water Use Surverys.

On 14 June 2017, a Community Walk-in Session was held to detail the Water Use Survey commencing at RAAF Base Townsville.
On 6 March 2017, a Community Walk-in Session was held to announce that the Environmental Investigation was soon to commence and detail the name of the Lead Consultant to conduct the Investigation.
On 29 November 2016, a Community Walk-in Session was held to announcing the findings of the a Preliminary Sampling Program and Defence's commitment to conducting an Environmental Investigation.
In 2017 Defence opened a Water Use Survey as part of the RAAF Base Townsville Environmental Investigation to collect information about water supply and use on properties around the Base.
