Defence commenced a detailed environmental investigation to better understand the nature and extent of PFAS on and around RAAF Base East Sale in May 2016. The investigation is expected to be completed in late 2017.
The PFAS environmental investigations are conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure 1999 (NEPM). Visit the Investigation Process page to view a summary of this process.
Defence completed the first stage of the investigation, the Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI), at RAAF Base East Sale in September 2016. The PSI included engagement with local community and key government stakeholders, reviewing site history for AFFF use and identifying PFAS sources, as well as preliminary sampling of bores near the base.
