Defence commenced a detailed environmental investigation to better understand the nature and extent of PFAS on and around RAAF Base Darwin in March 2017. The investigation is expected to take around 12 months to complete.
In 2016, Defence completed a Preliminary Sampling Program at 12 Defence sites including RAAF Base Darwin. Based on the outcome of this program it was determined that the base will undergo a detailed environmental investigation.
The PFAS environmental investigations are conducted in accordance with the National Environmental Protection (Assessment of Site Contamination) Measure 1999 (NEPM). Visit the Investigation Process page to view a summary of this process.
The most recent community information session was conducted on 27 June 2017.
