The East Coast Air Defence Exercise (ECADEX 05) is an important training activity for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

ECADEX 05 runs from Wednesday 26 October to Wednesday 9 November and is a vital training exercise for Air Force personnel in order to maintain operational capacity and to practice key defence skills.

The exercise also provides an opportunity for Air Force personnel to practise their skills at maintaining the integrity of Australian air space and protecting vital infrastructure, such as a shipping port or an airfield.

The majority of the aircraft assets and personnel will be operating out of their home bases at RAAF Williamtown (NSW) and RAAF Amberley (QLD) for the duration of the exercise.

Communities surrounding RAAF Amberley and RAAF Williamtown may notice an increase in aircraft activity at these bases with the majority of exercise flying conducted over water in the East Coast military exercise area off the central coast of New South Wales.

The majority of exercise flying will take place from 11am to 10pm Monday to Friday with the exception of a 48 hour flying window on the 7th and 8thNovember.

During this time flying will occur on and off at certain periods throughout the entire 48 hour time frame. Normal military flying will occur around these times that may be on Saturdays and Sundays.

(Slight changes will occur in flying times in and out of RAAF Base Amberley when daylight saving commences in NSW on 30 October. Flights will be an hour earlier than those at Williamtown).

The Air Force is taking every possible measure to minimise the impact of ECADEX 05 on the local community.
