Employment outside Defence

Overview

Members of the ADF (including Reservists) and Defence APS employees might do work for employers outside Defence before, during or after the time that they work in Defence.

The ADF member, Defence APS employee and their non-Defence employer whether current or prospective must ensure that they take steps to protect themselves and Defence from any conflict between those two jobs.

Defence wants to encourage movement of skilled personnel between industry and government and has set up some processes that can help that to happen. These processes ensure that Defence personnel can move in and out of Defence in a way that prevents a conflict of interest arising and manages potential or perceived conflict of interest.
