6.6.18   Purpose

 

This Division describes a member's entitlements when they choose to have their dependants live at a different location from where they are posted. The choice must be based on compassionate grounds.

6.6.19   Removal to a chosen location

1.

A member with dependants may be entitled to Commonwealth assistance with a removal for their dependants to a location they choose if both the following criteria are met.

 

a.

The member must have been posted to a location for duty for six months or more.

 

b.

The CDF must be satisfied that there are sufficient compassionate reasons for the removal of the dependants to a chosen location.

1A.

CDF may grant a member with dependants a removal at Commonwealth expense if satisfied that both the following conditions are met.

 

a.

The move is necessary to enable the member's spouse or partner to continue in employment or study.

 

b.

The dependants are being removed to a location that is closer to the member's gaining location than the losing location by the most economical means of travel.

Commonwealth spending on a removal to a chosen location is limited. It will be no more than would have been spent on moving the member’s furniture and effects to their new posting location from both these places.

 

a.

The member's residence in the old location.

 

b.

A store in any location.

3.

This table shows who pays for activities involved in a removal to a chosen location.

If the cost of removal to a chosen location is less than the cost of a removal to the member's new location, the member is not entitled to the difference.

Note: If a member decides to move to a chosen location, temporary accommodation allowance and rent allowance are not normally payable.

6.

The compassionate reasons for the move may cause the member financial hardship. If the CDF decides that this has happened, then the CDF may approve payment beyond the Commonwealth limit.

6.6.20   Removal to a chosen location instead of a remote location – Army and Air Force

 

TAX ALERT: PACMATE Annex 3.A, item 109.

1.

If a member of the Army or Air Force is posted to a remote location for six months or more, the Commonwealth will pay to remove their dependants to a chosen location. It will not pay more than it would have paid for a removal to the remote location.

Note: The list of remote locations is in Annex 5.2.A.

2.

This table shows who pays for activities involved in a removal to a chosen location.

6.6.21   Removal to a chosen location instead of a remote location – Navy

1.

This clause applies to a member of the Navy who is posted to a remote location for six months or more. The member is entitled to remove their dependants to a chosen location.

2.

The Commonwealth's contribution towards the cost of the removal is limited to the greater of these amounts.

 

a.

The cost of removal to a remote location under the conditions set out in the table in subclause 6.6.20.2.

 

b.

The cost of full removal of furniture and effects to the member’s home port when the home port is not in a remote location.

 

c.

The cost of removal to the member’s home port when the home port is in a remote location. This would be under the conditions for a removal to a remote location set out in the table in subclause 6.6.20.2.

3.

The member may choose in writing to remove only their effects to the chosen location. The Commonwealth will pay both the following.

 

a.

Costs that would have been paid to remove the effects to a Service residence in the remote location.

 

 

b.

Storage for furniture and effects not needed at the chosen location.

4.

The compassionate reasons for the move may cause the member financial hardship. If the CDF decides that this has happened, then the CDF may approve payment beyond the Commonwealth limit.

6.6.22   Removal of dependants from chosen location to current posting location

A member may need to move their dependants from a chosen location to their posting location. This table shows how costs involved in the removal from the chosen location depend on costs of the removal to the chosen location.
