Division 1: Adventurous training instructor allowance

Purpose

G4.3

Adventurous training instructor allowance is payable to recognise the special skills and qualifications required to be an adventurous training instructor or unit adventurous training leader, and recognise the responsibilities and disabilities inherent in conducting adventurous training activities.

Citation

1.

This Determination may be cited as Determination No 15 of 1996, Adventurous Training Instructor Allowance.

Definitions

In this Determination:

 

adventurous training activity” means an activity that is authorised by the Chief of the Defence Force and included in the Adventurous Training Wing syllabus.

 

qualified instructor” means a member who holds the qualification required to be a qualified adventurous training instructor and who is posted to the Adventurous Training Wing and employed on instructional duties.

 

“Qualified leader” means a member who holds the qualification of a unit adventurous training leader.

G4.4

The current range of authorised adventurous training activities is shown at Part 1 of Annex 4.3.A at the end of this Division.

G4.5

The authority to conduct a unit adventurous training activity is held by an officer not below the rank of Major appointed as the commanding officer or officer commanding of a unit or ship.

A member is entitled to Adventurous Training Instructor Allowance at the rate of:

 

(a)

$5,572 per annum for a qualified instructor; and

 

(b)

$39.80 per day for a qualified leader for each day on which the member is authorised to lead a unit adventurous training activity.

G4.6

In order for the allowance to be payable, a qualified leader’s authorisation must be in writing. A qualified leader must have received certification from an authorised person that the activity has been completed and the relevant detail entered in the member's unit adventurous training leader log book (Form AC 660), in the format shown at Part 3 of Annex 4.3.A at the end of this Division, before a payment can be made.

G4.7

The on-occurrence rate of the adventurous training instructor allowance is not payable:

a.

for days spent in pre- and post-activity planning and administration;

b.

for days spent in reconnaissance for an activity;

c.

for adventurous training club activities;

d.

for attendance as a student on a unit adventurous training leader course;

e.

for attendance as a student on course of an adventurous nature; or

f.

for participation in personal adventurous training activities.

Qualifications

G4.8

A register to record the currency of unit adventurous training leader qualifications is to be maintained by the Army Adventurous Training Centre.

G4.9

A record of qualifications detailing the date the initial qualification was received and the dates of re-certification is to be maintained in the front of the unit adventurous training leader log book.

G4.10

A unit adventurous training leader's qualification is to be reviewed and re-certified by a certifying officer two years after the receipt of the initial qualification and each two years after that.

G4.11

If authorised by a certifying officer, an extension of the review period may be granted for a period not exceeding a further six months.

This Determination shall take effect on and from 13 June 1996.
