A pro rata bonus paid under subclause 2 is calculated using the method in clause 3.5.179. See: Clause 3.5.179, Calculation of the bonus amount |
1. |
This clause shows how to calculate an amount of completion bonus that a member is entitled to under this Division. |
2. |
This table shows the first stage of calculating the amount of a member's completion bonus. |
Step |
Action |
1. |
Work out the number of
calendar days in this period. a. The period starts on the
day the member is taken to start their undertaking to serve under this
Division. (See: Subclause 3.5.174.2) b. The period ends on the
day before the date the member is entitled to be paid the completion bonus. |
2. |
In the period calculated
above, was the member in more than one of the qualification categories listed
in the table in subclause 3.5.179.5? |
3. |
If the answer to Step 2 is
'no', subclause 3 provides the rest of the process for calculating the
amount of a member's completion bonus. If the answer to Step 2 is
'yes', subclause 4 provides the rest of the process for calculating
the amount of a member's completion bonus. |
3. |
This table shows the second stage of calculating the amount of a member's completion bonus. It applies where the member was in only one qualification category for the period of the bonus and the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is 'no'. Related Information: If the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is 'yes', see subclause 4. |
Step |
Action |
1. |
Calculate the number of days of ineffective service in the period in Step 1 of the table in subclause 2. |
2. |
Take the number of days determined through Step 1 of the table in subclause 2, and subtract the number of days of ineffective service determined in Step 1 of this table. |
3. |
Divide the outcome of Step 2 above by 1095, which is the number of days within three calendar years.
If the period includes 29 February, divide by 1096. |
4. |
Find the completion bonus rate that corresponds to the member's qualification category in subclause 3.5.179.5.
See: Subclause 3.5.179.5 |
5. |
Multiply the outcomes of Steps 3 and 4 above. |
6. |
The member may be paid the outcome of Step 5. |
Example:
A member has passed the Investigator Qualification Course. She joins the
scheme on |

Step |
Example action |
Subclause 3.5.179.2 |
1. |
There were 868 calendar
days between |
2. |
The member was only in one of the categories in the table in subclause 3.5.179.5 (i.e. the Investigator Qualification Course). The answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is no. |
3. |
As the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is no, the rest of the calculations follow subclause 3. |
Subclause 3.5.179.3 |
1. |
The member had 50 days of ineffective service. |
2. |
868 minus 50 = 818 days |
3. |
818 divided by 1096 = 0.74635 |
4. |
The Investigator Qualification Course has a completion bonus rate of $12,000. |
5. |
0.74635 multiplied by $12,000 = $8,956.20 |
6. |
The member may be paid $8,956.20. |
4. |
This table shows the second stage of calculating the amount of a member's completion bonus. It applies where the member was in more than one qualification category for the period of the bonus and the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is 'yes'. Related Information: If the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is 'no', see subclause 3. |
Step |
Action |
1. |
Take the number of days determined through Step 1 of the table in subclause 2. Work out how many calendar days there were in the period that the member worked at each qualification category.
Qualification categories are shown in the table in subclause 3.5.179.5.
Example: A member joins the scheme having passed the Military Police Investigator Course. Fifty days later the member passes the Investigator Qualification Course. For that member, the period is divided as follows: a. 50 days at category 2 (See the table in subclause 3.5.179.5.) b. 1045 days at category 3 (See the table in subclause 3.5.179.5.) |
2. |
Subtract the number of calendar days of ineffective service from the period in which it fell. |
3. |
Divide the outcome of each period in Step 2 above by 1095, which is the number of days within three calendar years.
If one of the periods includes 29 February, divide each period in Step 2 above by 1096. |
4. |
Find the completion bonus rate that corresponds to each qualification category the member held during the periods in Step 1.
See: Subclause 3.5.179.5 |
5. |
Multiply each outcome of Step 3 above by the corresponding completion bonus rate determined in Step 4 above. |
6. |
Add the results of each calculation in Step 5. |
7. |
The member may be paid the outcome of Step 6. |

Police Basic Course. He joins the scheme on |

As the answer to Step 2 of the table in subclause 2 is yes, the rest of the calculations must be done in accordance with subclause 4. |

The member had no days of ineffective service in the second period. The period remains 228 days. |
3. |
a. |
818 divided by 1096 = 0.74635 |
b. |
228 divided by 1096 = 0.20803 |
4. |
a. |
Category 3 has a completion bonus rate of $12,000. |
b. |
Category 2 has a completion bonus rate of $9,000. |

5. |
a. |
0.74635 multiplied by $12,000 = $8,956.20. |
b. |
0.20803 multiplied by $9,000 = $1,872.27. |
6. |
$8,956.20 plus $1,872.27= $10,828.47. |
