Remuneration Achievements

 

Remuneration is an integral part of the Defence Employment Offer which delivers on the Defence commitment to provide an environment which supports our people to contribute to a strong Defence capability.  Regular review of remuneration is fundamental in maintaining an attractive and compelling Defence Employment Offer.

 

Below is a summary of the major remuneration reform for the last five years.

2011

Senior Officer Graded Structure

  • Effective date of 17 March 2011..
  • Affected generalist Brigadier and Major General and their equivalents.
  • New three pay grade structure of Brigadier (equivalent) with placement informed by the members Colonel (equivalent) Graded Officer Pay Structure (GOPS) placement.
    • Pay grade 1 – for those members placed in GOPS pay grades 1 to 7.
    • Pay grade 2 – for those members placed in GOPS pay grades 8 and 9.
    • Pay grade 3   for those members placed in GOPS pay grade 10.
  • Major General (equivalent) on a single pay grade.
  • Introduced an increment rate.
  • No lateral movement between pay grades.

Senior Medical Officer Structure.

  • Effective date of 17 March 2011.
  • Affected Specialist Medical Brigadier and Major General and their equivalents..
  • Introduced a new structure.

2010

Medical Officer Structure

  • Effective date of 27 May 2010.
  • Affected Specialist Medical Captain to Colonel and their equivalents.
  • Introduced additional increments at competency level two and three.
  • Replaced competency level 2A with a 'plus 1' incremental movement.
  • Merged competency level four and five.
  • New salary band for specified Procedural Specialists.

2009

Trainee Pay Review

  • Effective date of 8 January 2009.
  • Introduced Trainee Allowance.
  • Reviewed the discounts percentages applied.

Officer Aviation Remuneration Structure

  • Effective date of 1 October 2009.
  • Affected Aviation Officers.
  • Introduced a competency based GOPS placement.
  • Introduced a specialist aviation spine.
  • Introduced a Capability Allowance.

2008

Star Ranks Remuneration Review

  • Effective date of 1 May 2008.
  • Affected Reserve Brigadier and Major General and their equivalents.
  • Abolished consolidated rates of pay with affected members placed on a daily rate of pay.
  • Effective date of 1 July 2008.
  • Affected all Brigadier and Major General and their equivalents (excluding Chaplain Division 5).
  • Introduced a banded structure.
  • Severed the linkage between the Star Ranks Remuneration Arrangement and the Workplace Remuneration Arrangement.

Graded Other Ranks Pay Structure (Remuneration Reform Project – Phase 4, Stage 2)

  • Effective date of 4 September 2008.
  • Affected all Other Ranks and Warrant Officer Class One and their equivalents.
  • Introduced a 10 graded pay structure.

2007

Graded Other Ranks Pay Structure (Remuneration Reform Project – Phase 4, Stage 1)

  • Effective date of 9 August 2007.
  • Affected all Other Ranks and Warrant Officer Class One and their equivalents.
  • Introduced a 16 graded pay structure for Other Ranks.
  • Introduced an eight graded, tiered pay structure for Warrant Officer Class One and their equivalents.

Graded Officer Pay Structure (Remuneration Reform Project – Phase 3, Stage 2)

  • Effective date of 9 August 2007.
  • Affected 2nd Lieutenant to Colonel and their equivalents.
  • All employment categories placed.
