Changes to Paid Parental Leave for ADF Members
From 28 February 2013, ADF members may choose to take paid parental leave at full pay or half pay or a combination of both.
The aim of this change is to provide greater flexibility to serving women and men to balance their family and work commitments. It supports implementation of the Pathway to Change initiative to achieve a respectful, fair and inclusive organisation.
Prior to the 28 February 2013 change, paid parental leave was only available at full pay.
From 28 February 2013, members will have greater flexibility in how they take paid parental leave, choosing from one of the following options:
· One unbroken period of up to 14 calendar days at full pay.
· Two separate periods, each of up to seven calendar days at full pay.
· One unbroken period of up to 28 calendar days at half pay.
· Two separate periods, each of up to 14 calendar days at half pay.
· One unbroken period of up to seven calendar days at full pay and one unbroken period of up to 14 calendar days at half pay.
Members must contribute to superannuation every fortnight they receive salary. The contribution rate is not reduced for parental leave at half pay.
The maximum period of parental leave is 66 weeks. This includes periods of unpaid, full or half pay parental leave.
