Subclause 15.2.34.1

Decide that a member is unable to take leave during a period for the specified reasons, on medical or compassionate grounds.

Subclause 15.2.34.2

Authorise payment of an amount of overseas living allowance for a period of unused leave after ceasing a long-term posting.

Subclause 15.2.35.3

Approve an amount of overseas living allowance for a member who is serving a period of detention under Service law.

Subclause 15.2.40.3

Authorise up to four reunion visits a year by a dependant who does not live at the member’s posting location.

Clause 15.3.14, exception

Authorise a member be provided with a ticket for transport instead of reimbursement for reunion travel.

Decide that it is reasonable for a dependant to be reunited with other people at Commonwealth expense.

Subclause 15.3.25.1

Authorise hire of an official vehicle for casual short-term private use.

Subclause 15.3.25.3

Decide that a member or dependant should be given a vehicle with a driver, because driving a motor vehicle at or in the region of a member’s posting location would be an unacceptable risk to their personal safety.


Subclause 15.3.26.1

Allocate an official vehicle to a member, for continuous full-time private use for a set period of time.

Subclause 15.3.29.1

Waive the requirement to make a contribution for the use of an official vehicle, having regard to the Chief Executive’s Instructions made under the Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997.

Clause 15.3.31

Approve a person as a close relative of the member or spouse.

Decide which close relative to reimburse for travel to visit a seriously ill person at an overseas location when more than one close relative seeks reimbursement.

Reimburse travel costs to a close relative to attend a funeral or to make necessary arrangements because of the death.

Subclause 15.3.35.2

Reimburse travel costs for a member, the member’s spouse or interdependent partner to visit a close relative.

Clause 15.3.36

Approve reimbursement of cost of fares for a child, having regard to conditions

Determine that a home is of a suitable standard for the member’s rank and duties at a location.

Subclause 15.4.23.2

Decide a reasonable reduction of a member’s rent and utilities contribution where, because of a long-term posting, the member establishes and maintains a household in Australia for a dependant.

Subclause 15.4.24.3

Reduce in whole or in part the rent and utilities contribution that a member is liable to pay for a residence at a particular location.

For remissions of up to 25% of the contribution:

Paragraph 15.5.5.1.c

Approve special circumstances as part of the period of eligibility for payment of excess health costs.

Subclause 15.5.8.2

Approve payment of an amount of additional costs, if hospital facilities of an Australian standard are not available at the posting location.

Clause 15.5.13

Approve repayment for an eligible person who requires a routine medical check during or after a posting.

Clause 15.5.15

Authorise travel at Commonwealth expense so an eligible person may receive treatment at a location other than the posting location.

Clause 15.5.16

Authorise travel of an escort at Commonwealth expense, if considered essential for an eligible person to be accompanied while obtaining medical treatment at another location.

Clause 15.5.17

Authorise travel of a child to accompany an eligible person or escort at Commonwealth expense, if satisfied that that it is impractical to make other appropriate arrangements for the care of the child.

Subclause 15.6.14.1

Approve the repayment of costs for tuition for communication other than speech.

Clause 15.6.15

Decide that a member can be repaid for remedial tuition which is essential to allow a child to make reasonable educational progress at school, within the limits of the child’s ability.

Subclause 15.6.23.1

Approve education assistance when a member needs to make special arrangements because educational facilities at the posting location are inadequate.

Subclause 15.6.23.2

Approve extra costs, when they are considered reasonable, when education facilities at posting location are inadequate.
